A new lift has been installed and is now open at Daisy Hill railway station in Westhoughton, providing step-free access between platforms for the first time.
The £4 million project was funded through the Department for Transport’s Access for All scheme and delivered in partnership with Northern, Network Rail, and Transport for Greater Manchester.

Until now, the island platform at Daisy Hill could only be reached via stairs. The station's inaccessibility had been a long-running issue for residents.
The new lift makes the station accessible to passengers who use wheelchairs, pushchairs, or have limited mobility.
Construction began in March 2024 and finished in early 2025. The lift became operational in April. Work also included improvements to the station’s accessible car parking spaces.
During the installation, parts of the car park and ticket office were temporarily closed, with alternative arrangements put in place.
The new lift is part of a wider programme to improve accessibility at railway stations across the UK.
